Recent findings in axotomy described by researchers from Jilin University

Researchers detail in 'Erythropoietin enhances survival of facial motor neurons by inhibiting expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase after axotomy,' new data in axotomy. "The aims of this study were (1) to evaluate the effect of high-dose erythropoietin (EPO; 5000 U/kg) on expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in the facial nucleus after facial nerve transection; and (2) to explore whether this effect is relevant to facial motor neuron survival. Forty-two Wistar rats (250-300 g) of both sexes were used in this study," researchers in Changchun, People's Republic of China report.
