Impact of Strain on Efficacy Unknown

The true impact of strain on the protective efficacy of the bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine can not be determined until more sophisticated studies are done, according to a report from the Harvard School of Public Health.

A possible explanation for the observed variation in the efficacy of BCG vaccine in preventing tuberculosis (TB) is that different BCG strains have been used in different studies.
