According to a an abstract presented by the authors to the Mucosal Immunity: New Strategies for Protection against Viral and Bacterial Pathogens Keystone Symposia, held January 16-23, 1995, in Keystone, Colorado, "The induction of mucosal immune response is important for protection against diseases which are clearly related to the mucosal system such as tuberculosis, AIDS or salmonellosis. In previous studies we have found increased immune responses in guinea pigs vaccinated via respiratory route with Pasteur BCG vaccine strain and with a Pasteur recombinant LacZ BCG orally administered.
