According to an abstract presented by the authors to the 2nd National Conference on Human Retroviruses and Related Infections, held January 29 - February 2, 1995, in Washington, DC, "A 100% increase in new cases (n=26) of culture-confirmed pulmonary TB with 6 deaths occurred during 1993 at the VA Lakeside Med. Cntr. This raised concerns about prompt isolation and drug treatment practices at our hospital. A retrospective review was initiated to determine patterns of clinical presentation and the influence of laboratory information on patient management. Chest radiographs showed apical infiltrates in 65% of patients. Classic symptoms associated with pulmonary TB were common: fever...
