PCR Used To Detect M. bovis

The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique can be successful for the direct detection of Mycobacterium bovis in bovine tissue samples.

M. bovis is a slowly growing microorganism and confirmation of the diagnosis by conventional culture is a lengthy process.

In this report Ernesto Liebana and colleagues of Spain's University of Barcelona introduce a simple rapid method for the extraction of DNA from bovine tissue samples.
