TB in Chicken Plant Brings Fear of Food Contamination

Virginia health officials were busy assuring the public about food safety after two employees in a poultry processing plant were diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB).

After the two employees were diagnosed with active TB in early February 1995, the state health department performed skin tests on every worker who may have come into contact with the two, an official with the Staunton-Augusta Health Department told a reporter.

Out of those workers, 29 tested positive on the tuberculin skin reactivity test and were promptly scheduled to receive chest X-rays, the official said.
