The prognosis for and sequelae of tuberculous meningitis (TBM) depend on the early institution of treatment. This treatment is frequently begun on the basis of presumptive diagnosis since clinical symptoms and certain CSF parameters (i.e., the leukocyte count, protein level, and a low CSF-serum glucose index) are similar to those found in cases of aseptic meningitis due to other etiologies.
