Atlanta Georgia TB Cases Down By 20 Percent

The number of new tuberculosis cases in Fulton County, Georgia, decreased 20 percent from 1993 to 1994, according to Dr. M.A. Wilson-Sumrall, medical director of the TB control program in the county in which most of the city of Atlanta is located.

There were 260 new cases in 1993 and 209 new cases in 1994, a 20 percent drop, the medical director told the Fulton County Board of Commissioners at a recent meeting.

In 1992, the board declared a state of emergency in the county after national figures showed Atlanta with the highest TB rate in the nation among large U.S. cities. The county reported 296 cases in that year.
