In 1987 the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised the AIDS surveillance case definition, adding several AIDS-defining diagnoses to the previous list, including extrapulmonary (EP) TB in HIV-infected individuals. However, pulmonary TB was not included until the introduction of the 1993 expanded AIDS definition.
