Serology Testing for TB Not Feasible in HIV Endemic Areas

Serology testing for the diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) is not feasible in areas that are HIV endemic, according to a report from Tanzania.

Serology for the diagnosis of TB has a long record in TB literature and has been widely studied. The ELISA technique has the advantage of being a semi-automated procedure with the capacity to analyze multiple samples and the equipment needed is now available in many hospitals in developing countries.
