Surgery Improves Cure Rate in Advanced MDR-TB

Surgery was largely responsible for a dramatic increase in the cure rate among patients with multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treated at Denver's National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine during the past decade.

The cure rate of MDR-TB patients increased from 56 percent between 1973 and 1983 to 85 percent between 1983-1993, National Jewish Center (NJC) researcher Michael Iseman revealed at the 1995 American Thoracic Society/American Lung Association International Conference, held May 20-24, 1995, in Seattle, Washington.
