TB Patients Who Leave Hospitals Against Medical Advise a Threat

Patients with tuberculosis (TB) and AIDS who leave the hospital against medical advice pose a potential risk to the public, and new strategies are needed to keep these patients hospitalized, according to a report from the New York City Department of Health.

The report was presented at the 1995 American Thoracic Society/American Lung Association International Conference, held May 20-24, 1995, in Seattle, Washington.

Researcher J. Sackoff and colleagues identified factors associated with leaving hospitals against medical advice (AMA) in AIDS patients undergoing TB diagnostic workups.
