Officials Unable to Trace Source of Amarillo TB Cases

Public health officials in Amarillo, Texas, have been unable to isolate the sources of an outbreak of active tuberculosis cases at two local elementary schools, according to reports in the Amarillo Daily News.

Anne Denison, the Bi-City-County Health District's tuberculosis control nurse, said officials have a long road ahead of them before they will be able to figure out how the children contracted active TB.

Dr. Rush Pierce, a TB clinician and health authority for the health district, called a press conference in May 1995 to announce that the district's TB control program had identified four children with active TB at Will Rogers Elementary...
