"The Utility of a Single Smear in the Diagnosis of AIDS Related Tuberculosis: Implications for Isolation."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 1995 International Conference of the American Thoracic Society, held May 20-24, 1995, in Seattle, Washington, "The diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) should be considered in all HIV infected patients with fever and pulmonary infiltrates. It has been proposed that these patients be isolated until the risk they pose to public health has been determined. This study was undertaken to assess the relative utility of a single sputum specimen in HIV infected patients suspected of having PTB.
