Assessing CDC TB Guidelines Impossible in Some Settings

Assessing the efficacy of U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for preventing tuberculosis spread in healthcare settings may be complicated by high pre-employment infection rates among workers in certain areas, according to a New York City study.

Researcher Kent A. Sepkowitz and colleagues reviewed the purified protein derivative (PPD) status among new hires at a New York City hospital and found that almost half were already positive at employment.
