Health Board Goes to Feds Over Michigan Prison's "Mishandling" of TB

Dissatisfied with the response from the Michigan Department of Corrections and the Michigan Department of Public Health, local public health officials in Michigan's Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph District Health Department (DHD) have filed a complaint with federal officials.

Mishandling of active tuberculosis cases among inmates at two Coldwater, Michigan, state prisons has spread the disease and "unnecessarily exposed" other prisoners, employees and possibly the general public, the local health officials charged.

Reports in the Kalamazoo Gazette said the local health department had filed a complaint in late June 1995 with the U.S. Occupational Safety...
