Aggressive Campaign Removes Atlanta's Stigma as Top TB City

Public health officials in Atlanta, Georgia - a city which in 1992 had the highest rate of tuberculosis of any city in the United States - are crediting an infusion of public and private funds with the 23 percent drop in TB case rate, according to reports published in the Atlanta Bulletin.

Cases of TB have decreased during the past two years in both Atlanta and the state of Georgia. Aggressive prevention efforts, including directly observed therapy, were launched during the critical period, with the support of the largest health-oriented foundation in the U.S. and a grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
