"Suppression of T-Cell Responses by TGF-(beta) in Tuberculosis."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Clinical Research Meeting, held May 5-8, 1995, in San Diego, California, "Patients with tuberculosis have depressed T-cell blastogenesis and cytokine production in response to mycobacterial antigens. Transforming growth factor-(beta) (TGF-(beta)), a cytokine that suppresses T-cell responses and deactivates macrophage-effector functions is expressed in tuberculous granulomas in the lung, and is induced in monocytes (MN) by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and its PPD.
