According to an abstract submitted by the author to the 35th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, sponsored by the American Society for Microbiology, held September 17-20, 1995, in San Francisco, California, "Background: In the last few years there have been several nosocomial outbreaks of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDRTB) in U.S. hospitals.
