According to an abstract submitted by the author to the European Conference on Tropical Medicine, held October 22-26, 1995, in Hamburg, Germany, "Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most neglected health crises and the TB epidemic is out of control in many parts of the world. TB is the leading cause of death due to a single infectious agent in adults world wide. WHO estimated that global TB incidence will rise to 10.2 million cases per annum by the year 2000.
