According to an abstract submitted by the author to the European Conference on Tropical Medicine, held October 22-26, 1995, in Hamburg, Germany, "Background: Tuberculosis (TB), particularly sputum smear-negative pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB is increasing rapidly in areas where both TB and HIV are epidemic.
