Mycobacterial Virulence Discussed at ASM Meeting

Analysis of the differential expression of a Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv gene and the characterization of differential expression in stress genes were among the reports dealing with mycobacterial virulence and pathogenesis presented at the 96th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology.

The meeting was held May 19-23, 1996 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Researchers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, used an RNA-based subtractive hybridization method to hybridize the virulent M. tuberculosis H37Rv strain to the less virulent H37Ra strain.
