Geography a Consideration When Determining Therapy

Geographic considerations are critical in determining initial therapy for HIV infected patients with mycobacterial infections, according to a report from the Canadian HIV Trial Network.

"Our data suggest that in British Columbia initial therapy for mycobacterial disease in HIV infected patients can be guided by the source of the isolate," researcher Val Montessori and colleagues wrote ("Species Distribution of HIV Related Mycobacterial Infections: Implications for Selection of Initial Treatment," Clinical Infectious Diseases, June 1996;22:989-992).
