Amplicor PCR Method Useful in Low Prevalence Areas

An evaluation of the Amplicor Mycobacterium tuberculosis polymerase chain reaction (PCR) screening method in a low prevalence population suggests that the procedure may be useful as a rapid confirmation test for smear-positive specimens or in cases where tuberculosis is strongly suspected.

"Our study shows that Amplicor PCR (Roche Diagnostics, Basel, Switzerland) is a fast method for the detection of M. tuberculosis isolates in respiratory samples," researcher R.
