TB Officials Meet to Discuss Future Control Efforts

Greater efforts are needed to track the highly lethal "W" strain of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) which is now being seen all over the country, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The "W" strain, first seen in New York City, was later identified in the western United States and has recently been reported in the southeast.

The CDC has requested that state and local health departments promptly report any TB cases due to this strain to ensure adequate treatment for patients.
