According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 36th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, held September 15-18, 1996, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "Rifampin (RIF) and isoniazid remain the most effective antimicrobial agents available for treatment of tuberculosis and the rapid and sensitive detection of rifampin resistance (RIF-R) in M. tuberculosis (Mtb) has significant value for patient care and TB control.
