Dr. H. Clifford Lane, U.S. NIAID, discussed the latest information on the use of IL-2 to boost CD4 cell production in AIDS patients at the 36th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, held in New Orleans, Louisiana, September 15-18, 1996. Lane said that IL-2 therapy results in an expansion of the T-cell population that exists at that point, but with a slight preferential increase in "naive" cells over "memory" cells. Over time, he explained, "... you see more diversity in the repertoire."
