Fatality Rate from TB Empyema High

Although the prevalence of tuberculosis empyema is low, the fatality rate from this complication is high.

Researcher E.V.G. Gaerlan and colleagues of Manila's University of the Philippines presented their data supporting this observation at the 1996 Clinical World Congress on Diseases of the Chest, held October 27-31 in San Francisco, California.

Gaerlan et al. determined the prevalence TB empyema and evaluated the clinical and laboratory profile of patients to aid clinicians in the early detection and prevention of this complication.
