Global Focus, Economic Commitment Critical for TB Control

A global focus is critical for the control of tuberculosis (TB) within the United States and other industrialized nations, according to a noted TB researcher.

"No one is safe until all are safe," George W. Comstock of the Johns Hopkins University said in his keynote address to the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease North American Region Second Mid Year Conference, held February 27 through March 2, 1997 in Chicago, Illinois.

Comstock's message was expressed repeatedly by researchers throughout the four-day conference, which focused on the role of the public and private sectors in global TB control.
