TB Major Etiologic Factor of Tubal Infertility

Tuberculosis is one of the major etiologic factors of female tubal infertility, especially in the Indian subcontinent.

Researchers from Bombay, India's Jaslok Hospital and Research Center found that 39 percent of the women with tubal factor infertility included in their study had pelvic tuberculosis.

Patients with tubal damage vary from those who have had prior tubal ligation to those with extensive peritubal and periovarian disease and damaged and occluded tubes.

In the Indian subcontinent, tuberculosis is a common infectious disease. Forty percent of the population is exposed to tuberculosis.
