According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, North American Region, Second Mid-Year Conference, held February 27 - March 2, 1997, in Chicago, Illinois, "TB rates remain high along the lower TX-Mexico Border, 20-35/100,000. The area is medically underserved with high poverty rates. 20-30% of area Bi-national isolates are resistant to at least INH 8 RIF. MDRTB cases admitted to South Texas Hospital are increasing, 4/'94; 2/'95; 13/'96, total of 20. 35% have primary residence in Mexico (1 US citizen), 45% TX, 20% shared residency, 60% have no other comorbidity, 20% DM, 5% each HCW, jail, steroids, '94-'95/100%...
