Miliary TB with Paradoxical Tuberculous Abscess Reported

Researchers from Houston's University of Texas Medical School report the case of a drug-sensitive, miliary tuberculosis patient who developed a paradoxical subcutaneous tuberculous abscess.

"The findings in the present case and our review of the literature emphasize that paradoxical cutaneous reactions can occur during adequate treatment of tuberculosis and are not necessarily indicative of drug-resistant organisms or inadequate response to therapy," researcher Luis M. Valdez and colleagues wrote ("Paradoxical Subcutaneous Tuberculous Abscess," Clinical Infectious Diseases, April 1997;24:734).
