According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology entitled AIDS Pathogenesis, sponsored by Abbott Laboratories and the Director's Sponsor Fund, held April 8-13, 1997, in Keystone, Colorado, "Mycobacterial diseases are common among HIV infected people. As macrophages are targets for both HIV and mycobacteria, coinfection of these cells may impair immune clearance of these pathogens.
