So pronounced Dr. Kebede Tadesse, Minister in charge of Social and Administrative Affairs in a December 1996 speech to the Consultative Group Meeting in Addis Ababa.
"Infectious diseases and nutritional disorders are widespread," he said. "Among the predominantly preventable diseases, upper respiratory infections, diarrhea, malaria, tuberculosis, and sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS, are major problems. The top killing diseases at the moment are malaria and tuberculosis."
