Increased CD8+, IL-12, IFN-Gamma Seen in Pulmonary TB

Active pulmonary tuberculosis is associated with increased CD8+ expression as well as interleukin 12 and interferon gamma expression in bronchoalveolar lavage, according to a report from Canada.

Researcher Rame A. Taha and colleagues suggested that interleukin 12 (IL-12) and interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) may be useful markers of tuberculosis activity ("IFN-gamma and IL-12 Are Increased in Active Compared with Inactive Tuberculosis," American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, April 1997;155:1135-1139).
