IL-12 Critical in Anti-Infective Immunity

Interleukin-12 has a significant role in the initiation of anti-infective immunity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other intracellular bacteria, according to a report from Germany.

Researcher Christoph H. Ladel and colleagues found that interleukin 12 (IL-12) can be induced by particulate substrates like beads or heat-killed bacteria, as well as virulent tubercle bacilli.

Early cytokine response has a major influence on the host response to infectious agents.
