According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 97th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 4-8, 1997, in Miami Beach, Florida, "Serodiagnostics of tuberculosis (TB) still needs to be improved. Crude antigen preparations from Mycobacterium tuberculosis lack specificity, while purified mycobacterial antigens do not provide sufficient sensitivity. We have developed a panel of 12 highly purified recombinant proteins of M. tuberculosis including several antigens specific to M. tuberculosis complex.
