According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 97th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 4-8, 1997, in Miami Beach, Florida, "The current licensed human Plague Vaccine USP is overly reactogenic, requires frequent boosters, is shown ineffectual against aerosol challenges of wild-type Y. pestis, and fails to protect against virulent strains that lack the F1 capsular protein.
