St. Louis Health Department Failed To Report TB Cases

A St. Louis, Missouri, program designed to protect residents against tuberculosis (TB), once hailed as one of the best in the nation, is coming under fire for allegedly not reporting more than a thousand TB cases.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported in a copyrighted story that hundreds of chest X-rays used to diagnose TB lay unread for eight months in the St. Louis Department of Health and Hospitals. And at least 1,200 TB infections went unreported to the state TB registry.

The newspaper cited reports by Missouri State Department of Health inspectors, which show the problems began at least a year ago and in some cases continue.
