CDC Data Argue for Extension of Pertussis Vaccination

A retrospective study of high-school students revealed a relatively high incidence of whooping cough (pertussis) among teens who completed recommended vaccinations as children.

Pertussis vaccines currently are not licensed for use in people over the age of six years.

"These results suggest that there may be a role for an adolescent booster dose if acellular pertussis vaccines are licensed for children...seven years of age [or older]," proposed Muireann Brennan of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
