"Incidence, Risk Factors and Outcome from Tuberculosis in Solid Organ Transplantation. A Case-Control Study."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 37th ICAAC, held September 28 - October 1, 1997, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, "In order to know the risk factors and outcome from tuberculosis (TB) in solidorgan transplant (SOT) recipients, we conducted a retrospective case-control study (2:1) in 7,125 SOT recipients hospitalized at 8 hospitals in Spain between 1980 and 1996. TB was diagnosed in 57 cases (kidney 35, liver 13, heart 9), representing an global incidence of 0.8%, 20-fold higher than the incidence of TB in the general population in our country.
