Preparing for Cold and Flu Season

The cold and flu season has arrived and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that more than 200,000 Americans will be hospitalized and up to 40,000 will die of flu-related causes this season.

Flu symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough, body aches, and general malaise.

The Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) has developed a series of projects to educate the public on a simple strategy to prevent the spread of germs that cause colds and the flu and many other serious illnesses: proper handwashing. In fact, the CDC has identified handwashing as the number one way to prevent the spread of infection.
