"Pneumococcal Reimmunization in HIV-1 Infected Patients."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 37th ICAAC, held September 28 - October 1, 1997, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, "Pneumococcal vaccine (PVAX) is recommended for all HIV infected patients (HIV⁺'s), but the benefit of reimmunization is unknown. We evaluated 90 HIV⁺'s who had received PVAX >5 years earlier (90 ± 15 mos) (Revax group), and compared their baseline capsule-specific IgG (IgG) levels for 4 common serotypes (4, 6b, 9v, 14) with those of 14 unvaccinated recent HIV seroconvertors (seroconversion within 12 months).
