"Pathogenetic Relationship between Tuberculosis and Pneumoconiotic Massive Fibrosis - An Autopsy Survey."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Ninth International Conference on Occupational Respiratory Diseases, held October 13-16, 1997, in Kyoto, Japan, "In order to re-evaluate the pathogenetic importance of a tuberculosis in the development of pneumoconiotic massive fibrosis (MF), the authors performed an autopsy survey of 900 cases with a pathologic diagnosis of a pneumoconiosis. MF was defined as a mass composed of pneumoconiotic fibrous lesions, which measures greater than 2.0 cm. A tuberculous etiology was indicated when lungs had evidence of pathologically confirmable tuberculous infections, and was strongly suggested in case of clinical evidence of positive smears...
