20 Years Later, New Pennsylvania Legionnaires' Cluster Reported

Almost two decades after the first cases of legionnaires' disease were identified in Pennsylvania, another outbreak of the disease has been reported in the state.

A small Pennsylvania town was the site of a 1995 outbreak involving 22 people, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports.

"This outbreak of legionnaire's disease in a small Pennsylvania community provides additional evidence of airborne transmission of legionnaires' disease," Anthony E. Fiore and colleagues wrote ("Epidemic Legionnaires' Disease Two Decades Later: Old Sources, New Diagnostic Methods," Clinical Infectious Diseases, February 1998;26:426-433).
