"Fever of Unknown Origin (FUO) in HIV Infected Patents - Etiology and Diagnostic Work-Up."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Sixth European Conference on Clinical Aspects and Treatment of HIV Infection, held October 11-15, 1997, in Hamburg, Germany, "Background: The term FUO was defined by Petersdorf and Beeson in 1961; Durack and Street have introduced a special definition for HIV infected patients (pts) in 1992. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 660 hospital admissions in the infectious disease section of our dept. from 10, 1988 to 12, 1995. Results: 660 hospital admissions were analyzed, 24 of these could not be evaluated; 51 (7.7%) FUO episodes in 50 patients (49 male, 1 female) were observed. Median age was 43 years. 42...
