According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the American Thoracic Society, 1998 International Conference, held April 25-29, 1998, in Chicago, Illinois, "Introduction: USPHS Study 21 demonstrated the effectiveness of 6-month short-course chemotherapy of TB. Study 22 evaluates RPT, a rifamycin derivative whose serum half-life is about 5 times that of RIF. Methods: Study 22 is a randomized, open-label clinical trial comparing once weekly INH/RPT with standard twice-weekly INH/rifampin in the continuation phase of TB therapy. Consenting patients aged 18 years with drug-sensitive pulmonary TB who have completed adequate induction therapy are eligible. Study sites...
