According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the American Thoracic Society, 1998 International Conference, held April 25-29, 1998, in Chicago, Illinois, "Lung disease leads to reduced physical activity, mobility and independence. To investigate musculoskeletal integrity, individuals with lung disease (LD, including COPD, alpha1 antitrypsin deficiency (A1AD), emphysema; 7.8 ± 2.0 yrs duration; FEV1.0 29 ± 3%, n=11), LD on oxygen therapy (LDO, all A1AD, 10 ± 2 yrs duration; FEV1.0 20 ± 2%; n=5), lung transplantation (LT, including cystic fibrosis, emphysema, primary pulmonary hypertension, A1AD, and bronchiexsis; 2.2...
