Experts Say Clock Is Ticking for Next Flu Pandemic

Experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have warned that it is only a matter of time before the appearance of a new strain of influenza virus which humans have not previously encountered or developed immunity against.

According to Dr. Walter Orenstein, CDC, "The influenza clock is ticking; we just don't know what time it is ..."

For more than ten weeks in 1997, deaths from influenza and pneumonia exceeded epidemic proportions in 122 cities across the country.
