MDR-TB Not Epidemic in France

Researchers from Paris' National Reference Center for Surveillance of Tuberculosis also found that HIV infection played a role in primary, but not secondary, multidrug resistance.
"The increased risk of primary multidrug resistant tuberculosis in people infected with HIV has recently been shown by the nosocomial outbreaks reported in London and Madrid," Valerie Schwoebel and colleagues wrote ("Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis in France 1992-1994: Two Case-Control Studies," British Medical Journal, September 1998;317:630-631).
